The BEL 290 is designed to meet the case sealing demands of heavy-duty applications and to minimize energy waste during slow or paused case production upstream. This built-in power save mode allows production departments to work more efficiently. It monitors the rate at which cases are flowing through the machine, hibernates when the machine is not in use, and automatically restarts when the case flow resumes.

Central Scale & Material Handling's Service Manager services all 3 of our divisions. In this edition, Kent is giving us the inside scoop on where the scale services are currently at and the direction of where it's heading.

• What are some of the newer trends you see developing with scales?
  KG: Some of the trends & advanced equipment that we are seeing are more integration into existing networks and PLCs. This gives the ability to capture information from the scales and use the information to be more efficient in certain production areas. It is exciting to create efficiencies for the customer. And it is exciting to see new products and tools being created that can be integrated for our customers. One of our main suppliers, Avery Weigh-Tronix, is a very innovative manufacturer and is always developing new and improved products, from new software programs to wireless forklift scales to unmanned truck scale operations. If folks haven't looked for a while they should visit their website or give us a call to see how their situations can be improved.
  
  
• What are the primary/common scale applications you see today?
  KG: Truck Scales, including Farming Applications, Quarries, and the Recycling / Scrap industry. Check weighing of various food ingredients and poultry applications.
  
  
• How do you approach custom applications?
  KG: When approaching custom applications, we try to get as much pertinent information as possible to know exactly what the customers wants and needs the scale to do, i.e., capacity and division size, communication to other devices and maybe give some advice and options.
  
  
• How is it that Central Scales retains existing customers and attract new ones?
  KG: We make the extra effort to get to know the customer and the customer's application so, at the end of the day the project meets everyone's expectations and needs. From there, we do an excellent job of using our experienced personnel to get the right equipment for the job. Our experience and the experience of our different vendors allow us to more efficiently complete a project, and results in better customer satisfaction. Often times, new clients tell us they heard good things about us and/or our products from other customers. We continually want to satisfy the good people we serve and then our business naturally grows by word of mouth.
  
  
• What do you like most about working at Central Scale & Material Handling?
  KG: What I like about working at Central Scale & Material Handling is the fact that we all have a common goal, which is customer satisfaction and growing our different divisions.
